Snapper Physical Description by Steve Starlo Starling

What is the Physical Description For The Snapper?

Here is an example of Starlo’s fishing tips and extra fishing information.  This will allow you to correctly identify these fish in Australia.

This is for the SNAPPER.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

The snapper’s pink to red base colouration, covered in small, iridescent blue spots, is characteristic, although the intensity of both the base colour and the spots varies greatly from one area to another, and even between individuals from the same region.

Throughout much of their range, larger snapper (especially big males) often develop a distinct lump or bump atop their steep foreheads, as well as on their upper jaws.
These lumps can appear quite grotesque in extreme examples.
In certain areas (especially around New Zealand), even some very large snapper do not develop obvious humps and bumps, retaining the same general body shape as juveniles.

Are Snappers in danger By Starlo.

CONSERVATION STATUS:

Snapper are a long-living, slowly-growing fish species that has been intensively targeted by both commercial and recreational fishers for many decades.

As a result, total numbers and average sizes of snapper stocks have declined significantly throughout their range.

There are strict size and bag limits in all states where snapper are caught, and closed seasons in some areas.

Observe all regulations and always fish for the future!

This will allow you to discover the life cycle of these fish around Australia; you will be surprised at what you will learn.

LIFE CYCLE:

Snapper mostly spawn over sand, mud or gravel sea beds in protected or partially protected bays, harbours, gulfs and lower estuaries.

Peak breeding activity in southern waters typically occurs from spring until early autumn and these fish are “serial spawners”; releasing eggs and milt many times during the spawning season.

Juveniles tend to remain in estuaries and bays for the first few years of their life before moving offshore.

Adult fish may migrate considerable distances up and down the coast during their lives.

Snapper grow slowly and can live a very long time (at least 20 to 30 years)

The largest fish tend to be males.
